Zhangjiagang POSCO Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. is referred to as ZPSS, the company is located in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province, Yanjiang Economic Development Zone. It is bordered by Shanghai in the east, Nanjing in the west, the Yangtze River in the north, Suzhou and Wuxi in the south, and the transportation is very convenient. Founded on February 15, 1997, ZPSS is a Sino-foreign joint venture specializing in the production of stainless steel, jointly invested and constructed by POSCO of South Korea and Jiangsu Shagang Group.
The first phase of the company's cold-rolled stainless steel project was officially started in April 1997 and completed and put into operation on January 22, 1999, covering an area of more than 120,000 square meters. The total investment of the first phase of the project is 216 million US dollars, and the design production capacity is 140,000 tons of cold-rolled stainless steel sheets per year.
In order to better meet the needs of users and improve the shortage of stainless steel cold-rolled products in China, with the approval of the relevant state departments, ZPSS increased its investment on December 14, 2001 and began to build the second phase of the stainless steel cold-rolled sheet project. The second phase of the project began piling on February 22, 2002, and the groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 19, 2003, and the whole project was fully completed and put into operation on September 19, 2003, covering an area of 208,000 square meters, so that the annual production capacity of cold-rolled stainless steel sheet reached 400,000 tons, and the product quality and service quality have reached the world's leading level.
In order to solve the problem of raw material supply for POSCO's cold-rolled stainless steel production enterprises (ZPSS and Qingdao POSCO Stainless Steel Co., Ltd.) invested in China and contribute to the development of China's steel industry, as well as to reduce production costs and improve the economic efficiency of ZPSS, POSCO decided to carry out the expansion project of STS Consolidated Steel Plant on the basis of the first and second phases of ZPSS project. The expansion project is located on both sides of the Yanjiang Highway in Daxin Town, Zhangjiagang City, 8Km away from the first and second phases of the project. The project includes three main projects: stainless steel smelting, continuous casting and hot rolling, with a design production capacity of 600,000 tons of hot-rolled stainless steel plates per year. The main products are 300 series and 400 series high value-added hot-rolled stainless steel. The expansion project was approved by the state on 8 September 2003 with an approved investment of US$744 million. The investment ratio is 82.5% for POSCO and 17.5% for Jiangsu Shagang Group. On October 31, 2003, the ZPSS Expansion Project Command Headquarters was established, and the planning and design of the stainless steel expansion project began. On July 31, 2006, after 19 months of arduous and intense construction, the expansion project was fully completed, officially declaring that ZPSS has become a veritable ZPSS.
The ZPSS expansion project has introduced a lot of foreign advanced equipment and technology. In terms of equipment, it has one of the few furnace coil rolling mills in the world's famous iron and steel companies, which can produce hot-rolled products efficiently and quickly, changing the traditional process of the previous iron and steel companies, and at the same time, the company has independently developed an advanced network control platform that runs through all the equipment of the company, focusing on the development of ERP, MES and other three-level network systems, which effectively guarantees the optimal allocation of the company's overall resources. In order to achieve the purpose of environmental protection, the expansion project introduced the most advanced equipment dust removal and by-product recovery system during the construction process, changing the disadvantages of the original steel company only focusing on production efficiency and ignoring environmental protection interests, and making its own contribution to the construction of "green steel".
ZPSS adheres to the investment philosophy of common development of enterprises and localities, common development of enterprises and customers, and common development of enterprises and employees, and carries forward the POSCO spirit of "limited resources, unlimited creativity", with the goal of creating a world-class enterprise, and spares no effort to work for the construction of Zhangjiagang and the development of China's iron and steel industry.
