Turkish Airlines Inc. is Turkey's main air transport business, founded in 1933. Based in Istanbul. It was once Turkey's national airline. The destinations cover Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and other regions.

Turkish Airlines, which traces its history back to the "National Aviation Administration" established in Ankara on May 20, 1933, is a subordinate department of the Turkish Ministry of Defense. Turkish Airlines' first regular route was the route between Ankara and Ekisehir, which opened in 1933. In 1938, it was renamed "National Airlines" and was under the management of the Department of Transportation. In 1955, the "National Aviation Administration" was reorganized into "Turkish Airlines". The company holds 60 million Turkish lira of total assets and manages all aviation-related activities in accordance with the provisions of a special law. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Turkish Airlines carried 1.7 million, 1.97 million and 2.25 million passengers, with a total revenue of US$230 million, US$300 million and US$450 million, respectively, and as of April 1, 2008, Turkish Airlines has 12,000 employees and is a full member of Star Alliance.

In 2007, Turkish Airlines became one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe in terms of capacity and passenger traffic, and was the airline with minimal baggage loss. Turkish Airlines has been praised by the European Aviation Association for the efficiency of its baggage operations and the punctuality of departures. In addition, Turkish Airlines is rated a four-star airline by Skytrax. In addition to passenger services, Turkish Airlines Cargo also provides fast, reliable, and high-quality air cargo services to meet the needs of its customers and strives to establish itself as the air cargo company of choice for customers in the regions covered by its routes. Turkish Airlines Cargo, an airline that operates air cargo in Turkey, has a 50% market share.

Turkish Airlines has codeshare agreements with airlines such as EgyptAir, Air China, Air India, and others.

In 2013, flights between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to Istanbul were daily.
