Founded in 1993 and headquartered at Doha New Airport, it is one of the world's fastest-growing airlines

Qatar Airways was founded on November 22, 1993 and began commercial flights on January 20, 1994. Initially, Qatar Airways was controlled by some members of the Qatari royal family. In April 1997, a new management team acquired management of Qatar Airways. Currently, Qatar Airways is 50% owned by the Qatari government and 50% by individual investors. Qatar Airways was the official airline for the 15th Asian Games held in Doha in 2006. In 2007, at the Paris International Air Show, Qatar Airways signed an agreement with Airbus to confirm an order for 80 Airbus A350 aircraft. At the Dubai International Airshow, Qatar Airways signed an agreement with Boeing of the United States to purchase 83 aircraft, including a firm order for 30 Boeing 787s and 23 Boeing 777s.

In 2008, Qatar Airways relocated its headquarters to a new airport in Doha. By the end of December 2011, Qatar Airways had opened 107 international routes, with 103 aircraft and nearly 5,700 flight attendants from more than 130 countries and regions around the world. On September 9, 2013, Qatar Airways announced that it would officially join oneworld on October 30 of the same year.
