China Operations
Delta Air Lines officially launched the Shanghai-Atlanta route on April 1, 2008, offering daily nonstop flights. After a year and a half, the service was suspended and resumed in August 2011, with direct flights from Shanghai Atlanta every Monday and Wednesday. In October 2009, Delta launched the Shanghai-Detroit route with flight number DL180.
With the acquisition of Northwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines integrated its original Beijing/Shanghai-Tokyo routes with flights DL634 and DL296, with DL634 from Beijing as a Beijing-Tokyo-San Francisco connection route and DL296 from Shanghai as a Shanghai-Tokyo-Atlanta connection route.At the same time, Delta Air Lines officially launched a direct flight between Beijing and Seattle on June 6, 2010, flight number DL128.In addition, Delta operates the Hong Kong-Tokyo, Hong Kong-Atlanta and Taipei-Tokyo routes.
European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has won another order from an American airline. Yesterday, Airbus announced that Delta Air Lines has confirmed an order with Airbus for 30 current A321 aircraft and 10 A330-300 aircraft. The last time Delta ordered an Airbus aircraft was 20 years ago.
According to reports, the A330-300 aircraft ordered by Delta will be delivered in 2015, and the A321 aircraft is expected to be delivered in 2016. The order is valued at a total of $5.6 billion at catalog prices. Delta Air Lines has ordered 190 seats for the A321, the largest family of A320 aircraft in the family.
Notably, the majority of Delta's A321 aircraft are expected to be final on the new Airbus U.S. final assembly line. The final assembly line in Alabama is currently under construction, with the first aircraft expected to be delivered in 2016. Airbus has a total investment of $600 million in the U.S. final assembly line, which Airbus says will bring 1,000 new jobs to residents in the region.
