Founded on September 1, 1921 and rebuilt on December 1, 1950, the People's Publishing House is a publishing house for political readings of the Party and the state, as well as the first well-known comprehensive publishing house for philosophy and social sciences in China. The name of the "People's Publishing House" inscribed by Comrade Mao Zedong has become the most conspicuous image symbol of the national and provincial people's publishing houses.
Since its establishment, the People's Publishing House has always shouldered a lofty historical mission, namely: publishing Marxist classics; important documents of the Party and the state; popular reading materials on the Party's line, principles, and policies; Party history and party building treatises; First-class academic works on politics, philosophy, economics, history, law, culture, international issues, etc., as well as biographies of important figures, philosophical and social science reference books and textbooks, etc. Over the past half century, the People's Publishing House has published more than 20,000 books and more than 3 billion books and periodicals. It has become a well-known national publishing house at home and abroad, and has made outstanding contributions to the publishing industry of the Republic.
