Founded in 1990 as China Trademark Law Firm, China Trademark & Patent Law Firm Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Commercial Law Firm) was originally a department-level institution under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and an earlier foreign-related intellectual property agency authorized by the Chinese government. In 1999, in response to the State Council's policy on the decoupling of government and enterprises, it was decoupled from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce and was placed under the management of the Central Enterprise Working Committee (now the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission), and in 2003, it further responded to the State Council's policy on the restructuring of intermediary institutions, and was decoupled from the Central Enterprise Working Committee and restructured into a joint-stock enterprise. The main business is to accept the entrustment of domestic and foreign customers to handle all legal services related to intellectual property rights in the People's Republic of China and abroad, which mainly involve trademarks, patents, designs, copyrights, customs filing of intellectual property rights, as well as the licensing and transfer of intellectual property rights.
