Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a century-old hospital in Shanghai, a tertiary first-class comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine hospital, and a national demonstration traditional Chinese medicine hospital. From 1984 to 2014, it was awarded the title of "Shanghai Civilized Unit" for 16 consecutive times; In 2012, it won the honor of "Advanced Collective of National Health System" for the fourth time; In 2005, it was rated as an advanced unit in the construction of national spiritual civilization; It has won the title of advanced unit of national hospital culture construction for many times; In 2009, it won the "Shanghai World Expo Quality Service Contribution Award" issued by the State Council. In 2001, it became the first Chinese medicine hospital in China to pass the ISO9001 quality management system certification. In 2010, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Health listed Shuguang Hospital as a research-oriented traditional Chinese medicine hospital jointly established by the province and the ministry.
The hospital has two departments, east and west, with 1,200 approved beds and 1,320 open beds. The west is located at No. 185 Pu'an Road, Huangpu District, adjacent to Huaihai Park, covering an area of 28 acres. The eastern part is located at No. 528, Zhangheng Road, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, covering an area of 160 acres, and is a garden-style hospital integrating modern architecture and traditional characteristics. Founded in 2001, Shuguang Hospital Group currently has more than 10 member units. In 2008, it was approved to become the "International Exchange and Cooperation Base of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine".
The hospital has three key disciplines of the Ministry of Education: Orthopedics and Traumatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chinese Materia Medica (Chinese Medicine Preparations, Clinical Pharmacology of Chinese Medicine). There are 6 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine: Hepatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nephrology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Infectious Diseases of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Clinical Surgery of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Informatics of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nursing of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are 6 key clinical specialties of the Ministry of Health: Hepatology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Cardiovascular, Nephrology, Endocrinology, and Clinical Pharmacy. There are 12 key specialties of the Central Administration of China: Nephrology, Endocrinology, Spleen and Stomach Diseases, Cardiovascular, Acupuncture, Proctology, Pulmonology, Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Nursing, and Clinical Pharmacy. The emergency department of traditional Chinese medicine is the emergency base of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the preparation room is the national base for traditional Chinese medicine preparations and dosage reform.
The hospital has more than 70 specialties with their own characteristics, unique and well-known throughout the country. In recent years, the hospital has insisted on strengthening the construction of traditional Chinese medicine connotation, and has successively established departments such as "Famous Doctor Diagnosis and Treatment Center", "Traditional Diagnosis and Treatment Center", "Preventive Disease Treatment Center", "Shi's Traumatology", "Park's Anorectal Department", "Cai's Library" and so on. In order to do a good job in the inheritance of the academic ideas of famous and old Chinese medicine experts, the hospital has established 7 national famous and old Chinese medicine expert inheritance studios and 12 Shanghai famous Chinese medicine studios.
The hospital has a number of intensive care units, advanced medical facilities, complete internal and external gynecology and pediatrics, in 2012 the establishment of the Reproductive Medicine Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, in 2014 to resume obstetrics, has a strong comprehensive treatment capacity, has become one of the six key units of Shanghai public health prevention and control system, one of the three emergency centers in Pudong. The Medical Quality Monitoring Center of the Chinese Medicine Hospital of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Shanghai Medical Quality Control Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine are also located in the hospital. In 2010, the hospital became one of the designated hospitals of the Shanghai World Expo, and undertook the medical security task of the medical site in Area C of the World Expo.
The hospital has more than 1,800 employees, including 121 senior professional titles and 41 doctoral supervisors. There are 11 experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council, 61 people have been selected for the national talent training project, and more than 100 experts have served as vice chairmen of the national and Shanghai professional medical associations. Now it has 15 national and provincial famous Chinese medicine practitioners, 40 Shuguang famous Chinese medicine doctors, and 37 Shuguang senior Chinese medicine physicians.
With the goal of building a research-oriented hospital, the hospital has 4 research institutes, 14 clinical research laboratories, 5 third-level laboratories for traditional Chinese medicine research, and 8 second-level and first-level laboratories. The Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China was established, which was jointly built by the Ministry of Health and Kidney Syndrome. The phase I drug clinical trial ward with international standards has completed the first clinical trial project commissioned by the World Health Organization in China. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the comprehensive scientific research capacity of the hospital has been greatly improved, and a total of 2 projects of the National 863 Program, 4 national major infectious disease projects, 4 national major new drug creation projects, and 86 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China have been undertaken. The hospital has won 33 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards, applied for 87 patents, authorized 69 patents, and transformed 4 scientific and technological achievements.
As the earliest clinical medical school established in the country and the clinical base of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine, Shuguang Clinical Medical College has 18 teaching and research departments, 7 doctoral training sites, 11 master's training sites, and 3 postdoctoral mobile stations. Every year, it undertakes more than 800 clinical teaching for all kinds of students.
