The history of Tranter can be traced back to 1932 when automotive pioneer R.E. Olds founded a company in Lansing, Michigan, USA to produce eutectic plates for refrigerated transport trucks. Five years later, the company was acquired by J.R. Tranter. At the end of the 40s, the PLATECOIL® surface heat exchanger was developed, which can be used as an immersion heater or cooler, as well as as for self-contained or additional heat exchangers in process vessels.  

In 1967, Tranter added oilfield equipment to its product line by acquiring a facility in Wichita Falls, Texas. After that, Tranter began to gradually relocate production from Lansing to Texas. In 1972, Tranter was licensed to produce the SUPERCHANGER® gasket plate heat exchanger; By the mid-'80s, Tranter had moved all of its production operations to Wichita Falls and was focused on manufacturing the two plate heat exchanger families mentioned above; In the '90s, Tranter began to look globally. The company acquires the Reheat and SWEP gasket-type plate heat exchanger product lines in Sweden, as well as distributors for these products in Europe, Asia and Australia.

At the turn of the century, Tranter quickly became one of the world's leading heat transfer technologies. In the first decade of the new millennium, Tranter expanded its product portfolio and geographic reach with significant investments in product development, innovative manufacturing processes, expanded production capacity and mergers and acquisitions. These include: the acquisition of distributors in China and Poland; New operations in Brazil, the Middle East and Russia; and the establishment or acquisition of service centers in key markets around the world.  

In 2008, the acquisition of Pressko, a German manufacturer of plate and shell heat exchangers, not only increased the product range, but also laid the foundation for the establishment of a welding center. The center has since developed into a testing ground for advanced manufacturing processes and equipment, and its technologies and standards are being rolled out to factories in the United States, China, and India.  

Both acquisitions were further strengthened by the expansion of factory floor space and production capacity. Another acquisition in Mexico makes Tranter the only manufacturer of plate heat exchangers in Latin America.  

Tranter's History in China:

In 1994, Tranter products entered the Chinese market and set up a representative office in Beijing.

In 2000, Transfar (formerly SWEP) Plate Heat Exchanger (Beijing) Co., Ltd. was registered and established in Beijing, as a sales guidance and PHE production (assembly) center in China, using the original core components (plates, gaskets) of Swedish and American companies to customize detachable plate heat exchangers in China, and provide comprehensive pre-sale, in-sale and after-sales service.

In September 2007, SWEP Plate Heat Exchanger (Beijing) Co., Ltd. officially changed its name to Chuante Plate Heat Exchanger (Beijing) Co., Ltd.;

Transfar China has obtained ISO9001 quality system certification, ISO environmental management system certification, plate heat exchanger product safety ancestor of the National Boiler and Pressure Vessel Standardization Technical Committee, and China Classification Society product certification. As early as 2005, Transfar China was ahead of its peers and obtained ASME certification, and was the only wholly foreign-owned company with a pressure vessel design license.
