Baima Town belongs to Lishui County, Nanjing, and is the earliest blackberry growing area in China. In 1987, the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Jiangsu Province introduced the first blackberry from the United States and planted it here. After more than 30 years of development, blackberry cultivation has become a pillar industry in Baima Town, with an annual supply of more than 3,000 tons.
Blackberries are native to Europe, and have spread to North America, Australia and other places by shipping in the past, and have gradually become one of the important species for fruit tree cultivation in Europe and the United States. The fruit is composed of a number of small drupes, the appearance is purple-black, the taste is sweet and sour, in addition to direct consumption, more used in juice brewing, pastry processing and so on.
The cultivation of blackberries in Hakuba is highly regarded by the authorities. Since the 80s of the last century, the Blackberry R&D Center of the Jiangsu Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Baima National Agricultural Science and Technology Park and other institutions have been established to support the development of the local blackberry industry. At present, the product matrix of Baima Blackberry has been broadened to blackberry puree, wine and freeze-dried powder, etc., but most of the products are only for overseas sales, and there is no special purchase channel in China.
