overview
Whether you're visiting Hong Kong with your children or traveling on your own, the University is one of the highlights worth visiting. Visiting the characteristic historical sites and feeling the campus atmosphere is also a good experience.
As a tourist, the experience of the university is only limited to the campus environment and atmosphere, and it is difficult to deeply experience the special features of Hong Kong's university as an educational highland. In addition, in recent years, mainland universities have gradually improved in this regard, and famous universities and attractions in the mainland abound, so visiting Hong Kong campus is not very attractive to most tourists.
The University of Hong Kong
Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong is the earliest institution of higher learning in Hong Kong and the world. Famous alumni who graduated from HKU include Zhu Guangqian, Zhang Ailing, Huang Zhan, Lin Xi, Wu Aiyi, etc.
Walking into the University of Hong Kong, several historical buildings on campus are worth visiting, and many movies such as "City of Glass" and "Lust and Caution" have been filmed here. The landmark buildings are: Headquarters Building, University Hall, Hung Hing Ying Building and Tang Chi Ngong Building, which are built in the style of British Edwardian gardens with obvious characteristics. The main building is supported by Renaissance-style granite columns, a high tower and four corner towers. The Main Building was used as the Faculty of Arts until 2012, and Eileen Cheung studied in the Main Building. Today, the Main Building is the preferred place for HKU students to take graduation photos.
After visiting the historic buildings, the University of Hong Kong Art and Art Museum is also a must-see. It is the oldest museum in Hong Kong, having been established in 1953. The museum houses a valuable collection of more than 1,800 pieces, enriched by a collection of bronzes, ceramics and paintings. The museum regularly hosts exhibitions, lectures and guided tours. The University of Hong Kong Art and Art Museum is open to the public free of charge from Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 18:00 and Sunday from 13:00 to 18:00.
