For most tourists, Suzhou Gardens may not be as well-known as Hanshan Temple. Zhang Ji, who suffered from the Anshi Rebellion that year, wrote a poem "Fengqiao Night Park" to express his sorrows, which has been recited by the Chinese people so far, and his influence has even radiated to some surrounding countries. At that time, many poets and artists came here to chant poems and paint, and Fengqiao also became a famous bridge in Suzhou. This temple was built in the Southern Dynasty Xiaoliang Dynasty Tianjian period (AD 502~519) for thousands of years of incense, although it was destroyed by many fires, but it is still tenaciously reborn. Today's main building is basically built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty.
The original name of Hanshan Temple was "Myori Pumyeongta Temple", which belonged to the Rinzai sect under Zen Buddhism. The famous Buddhist Hanshanzi once came here to live in the Zhenguan period of Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, and the temple was later renamed Hanshan Temple. I have to say that Han Shanzi is a magical character. He was a rare vernacular poet in the Tang Dynasty, and his poems were not taken seriously in the Tang Dynasty, but when they were transmitted to Japan, they attracted strong attention from the Japanese, which in turn influenced China's understanding of Hanshan. By the Song Dynasty, Hanshan had been recognized as the reincarnation of Manjushri. Zhang Ji's "Fengqiao Night Park" can have considerable influence in Japan, and the name of Hanshan has a lot of promoting effects.
The relics of Hanshan Temple now have the bell tower, the tablet corridor, the Daxiong Treasure Palace, the Tibetan Scripture Building, the Fengjiang Building, the Frost Bell Pavilion and so on.
belfry
It should be pointed out that there are two bell towers in the Hanshan Interior. The small bell tower is a late Qing dynasty building, and the three-story "Hanshan Temple Bell Tower" is a large bell tower completed in 2008. So far, individuals, organizations and even countries have contributed more than 200 bells to Hanshan Temple, but the bell that Zhang Ji heard at that time is long gone. The big bell in the ancient bell tower is an iron bell recast in 1906 when Chen Linglong, the governor of Jiangsu, rebuilt Hanshan Temple. As for the large bell sent by the Japanese in the same year, it was stored elsewhere due to the resistance of all walks of life. The bell of the big bell tower weighs 108 tons, the bell height is 8.588 meters, and the maximum diameter of the skirt at the bottom of the bell is 5.188 meters, and it has won the title of "the world's largest Buddha bell" recognized by the Guinness headquarters of Shanghai Great World.
Every year on the evening of December 31, the temple always holds a prayer and listening to the bells. Tickets range from 300 yuan to be expensive, but they still attract many tourists, many of whom come from as far as Japan.
Monument Gallery
The stele gallery has many inscriptions, the most famous of which is the poem tablet "Fengqiao Night Park" written by Yu Yue, a famous scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. In fact, since the advent of this ancient poem, Hanshan Temple still has the first two generations of poetry monuments, but after the war and other reasons, they have basically been destroyed and do not exist. The fourth poem tablet is the modern Zhang Ji (the same name) in response to the famous painter Wu Hufan's appointment, although the overall popularity is not as good as the third poem tablet, but he died unexpectedly the next day after writing "Fengqiao Night Park", adding a lot of mystery to the poem tablet.
