Located in the industrial park, Jinji Lake covers an area of 7.5 kilometers and is one of the largest urban inland lakes in China. Legend has it that Qiongji, the daughter of Wu Wangfucha, committed suicide by throwing herself into the lake here, hence the name. However, the earliest exact record of Jinji Lake is only in the 48th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1707), and the formation time is likely not to be long. In the 90s of the 20th century, with the development of the industrial park, Jinji Lake began to transform from a fish pond to a tourist attraction, and now it is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, and it is open to the public free of charge, which is rare. If all kinds of gardens and ancient towns are the charm of old Suzhou, then Jinji Lake Scenic Area is the business card of modern Suzhou.
The official Jinji Lake Scenic Area has set up functions such as five functional areas, eight landscapes, and six business travel experiences, but there is no too novel place for foreign tourists, after all, domestic cities have the problem of homogenization. This list lists some of the more popular and good places to experience.
Gate of the East
Strictly speaking, the Gate of the East does not belong to the Jinji Lake Scenic Area, but is adjacent to the Jinji Lake. But visitors to Jinji Lake will be more or less attracted by this new landmark in Suzhou. The Oriental Gate is a two-story twin tower with 66 and 60 floors on the highest floors and a total height of 301.8 meters. The building is located at the easternmost end of the CBD of Suzhou Industrial Park, standing out from the crowd and is very spectacular. Because of its unique appearance, many netizens called it "Suzhou Daqiu Pants" and quickly became popular on the Internet. The Gate of the East is still not open to the public, and visitors who want to climb the building must register at the front desk.
Jinji Lake Musical Fountain
After a three-year absence, the Jinji Lake Musical Fountain officially returned in 2018. With an area of 28,000 square meters, the upgraded musical fountain is the largest water musical fountain in the country, comparable to the Dubai Fountain in the United Arab Emirates and the Las Vegas Fountain in the United States, which are ranked among the top two in the world. The music fountain library reaches 50 songs, and 9 songs are played in each show. Every Friday from 8 p.m., a magical show of water and light is staged here, which is extremely romantic. It is important to note that due to the large number of spectators, please pay attention to safety when leaving.
Water Ferris wheel
Suzhou Ferris Wheel Park is a theme amusement park with a happy Ferris wheel, double-decker wooden horse, starry sky swing, DISKO, passion roller coaster and other attractions. The main project of the park, the Ferris wheel, is 120 meters high, which is the largest water Ferris wheel in China, and can be called a necessary check-in place for couples in Suzhou. Many films and television have come here to film, which shows its popularity. In September 2018, the park was officially closed for new planning and renovation, and is expected to be completed in 2021. The Ferris wheel will not disappear, but will be reborn.
In addition, although the International Expo Center, Culture and Art Center, and Lake Island in the Jinji Lake Scenic Area have no obvious characteristics, they are also suitable for tourists to take a walk and relax.
