Aman Fayun - Agency Reviews

Aman Fayun is the second resort in China to be opened by the Aman Resorts Group. Located in the ancient village of Fayun, the hotel is designed with the concept of "18th century Chinese village", which not only retains the original layout of the village, but also follows the traditional construction techniques: wood as the base, brick as the wall, and tile as the roof, and the original ecological mountain and wild taste has not been diluted in the slightest.

Tucked away from a camellia plantation, Amanfayun is less sophisticated than a top business hotel, but quaint enough. The hotel has 46 guest houses, suites and villas, each with its own name and associated couplets. The layout and design of the rooms are also different, and they are distributed in the form of detached courtyards in various corners of the village, surrounded by fences made of flowers and trees. All rooms are equipped with underfloor heating, air conditioning, calligraphy on the walls with the theme of Hangzhou and the hidden world, sound system, and some rooms have open patios and courtyards full of flowers. The furniture is free-standing and made of wood, with carved wooden lattices to distinguish the space, and the dim yellow lighting renders an antique atmosphere. In order to create a more secluded and elegant environment, there is no electronic access control system in the room, no key card, but a key with a bamboo link, and there is no TV in the house, so guests can inform the hotel in need for early collection.

Fayunsha is the public area of the hotel and the heart of the village. Fayun House has an information desk with professional counselors to answer questions or make travel plans for residents, and the second floor is a library and cigar room. There is a 600-meter-long trail along the stream in the village, called Fayun Trail, and trees such as tea trees and green bamboo are planted on both sides. There is a boutique on the North Path of Fayun Trail, and nearby is Aman's spa, which includes an outdoor heated pool and pedicure rooms. The Fayun Trail connects to the Lingyin Scenic Area, where monks in robes can often be seen, and the hotel also provides guests with activities such as morning classes at Buddhist temples, copying scriptures, listening to Sanskrit, and experiencing Zen culture.

There are five restaurants in the village, and non-residents can come in and dine, and the prices are not cheap, but they are delicious. The most distinctive is the Lingyin Zhai Restaurant, the restaurant needs to be booked in advance, enter the Zhai Restaurant, first taste the homemade Longjing Zen tea, then eat a bowl of simple noodles, and finally get a book with the fate.

Aman's prices have always been talked about, and there's even a new term, 'amanjunkie', to describe those who have lived in more than three Aman homes. Aman Fayun tops the list of most expensive hotels in Hangzhou at 6,000 per night, which some have joked is no different from a high-end farmhouse. Admittedly, the brand concept dictates that Aman Fayun is not aimed at the general taste, but even so, there is still some room for improvement compared to other hotels opened by Aman.
