Chongming Island is known as the third largest island in China, but as we all know, the island needs to be just the right size to be interesting, otherwise it is equivalent to the coastal mainland. Located at the easternmost tip of Chongming Island, Dongtan Wetland is the only wetland park in China adjacent to a migratory bird sanctuary, making it an obvious place to get close to nature.

The total area of the park is 8.6 square kilometers, but the basic environmental construction of 1.81 square kilometers has been completed, which is also the status quo of Chongming's tourist attractions, which is vast but not sound. Even so, the Dongtan wetland still has enough surprises, with a green area of nearly 300,000 square meters and more than 200 species of seedlings. In addition, there are 350,000 square meters of lake pools, 400,000 square meters of virgin reeds, and the light beach and swamp are contrasting with each other, which is a beautiful scenery in the eyes of visitors and an ideal habitat for birds. According to statistics, there are nearly 150 species of birds in the park, of which more than 10 species such as black-faced spoonbill, white spoonbill, black-billed gull and so on are listed as national protected animals or endangered species, and the total number of other migratory birds is more than 2,000.

According to the tour route, the park has a visitor center (including the Yangtze Alligator Science Museum), Guanlu Terrace, Quemingdu, Fangcaodi, Guanhailou and other scenic spots. There are abundant vegetation along the way, and there are also birdwatching, fishing, and boat spots, and the best effect is to hike and ride Loulan, and you may wish to choose the electric tour bus provided by the park on the way back. In addition, the park sometimes holds camping, picking, science activities, etc., but this is not stable, so if you need to do so, you may want to call the park.

The opening time of Dongtan Wetland is 8:30, although it is located in the easternmost part of Chongming, but due to time constraints, it is a pity that you cannot watch the sunrise. If you want to enjoy the sunset, you can move to Xisha Wetland Park, but its location is very remote and the facilities are not perfect. In addition, Chongming Island is very remote, and there are scenic spots such as Dongping National Forest Park and Gaojia Manor on the island, which are the most suitable for self-driving tours, and there are not a few people who stay on the island.
