SMIC is an internationally renowned semiconductor manufacturer with strong corporate strength. In the early days of its establishment, SMIC School mainly served the children of the company's employees, and was recognized by the company's employees and the community for its first-class hardware facilities and excellent teaching standards. Shanghai SMIC School, which is invested by the same group, was established earlier than Beijing SMIC School and is quite well-known in the local area. SMIC School was officially opened in September 2005 and implements a nine-year system, and also has a kindergarten.

SMIC attaches great importance to home-school co-education, and has established a parent committee within the school, whose members are all parents of current students, who are responsible for assisting the school in carrying out various student work. For example, half a year before the domestic media began to pay attention to PM2.5, SMIC parents popularized the smog problem to the school, and installed air purifiers in the whole school in 2013. If the children are enrolled in SMIC in kindergarten, 50% of them can be directly promoted to the primary school, and children who do not have direct promotion are also required to participate in the kindergarten to primary school admissions interview. SMIC School Beijing enrolls about 6 classes of 30 first-year freshmen every year. The school interview is divided into two stages: the student interview and the family interview, and only students who pass the student interview are eligible to enter the family interview stage.
