Founded by Chen Dong and Lu Yi from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Borges Bookstore is one of the earliest independent bookstores in Guangzhou. Since its establishment, Borges Bookstore has undergone more than a dozen relocations, and the two remaining stores are located on Changxing Street and Oriental Wende Plaza. Borges Bookstore is not a large storefront, with a limited variety of books and unpopular books, most of which are literary theory, ideology and philosophy, literary fiction, social history, etc., and most of them are translated works. The books are displayed in alphabetical order of the author's English surname, which is intended to promote a kind of "mannerism" in the reading process. Unlike many brick-and-mortar bookstores, Borges does not tie himself to living venues or cafes, but insists on continuing in the form of serious bookstores. The "Mid-Month Reading" is a series of events for the public at the Borges bookstore, which is held on the evening of the 15th of each month. The bookstore will set up different themes, and the activities will be mainly in the form of reading works, supplemented by related discussions. The Literature Channel is also a daily activity of Borges Bookstore, which is also open to the public every odd day every month for a live broadcast of literature at Borges Bookstore's Oriental Wende Plaza store. Since its establishment, Borges Bookstore has been linked to the publishing practice of Chen Tong, and since 2007, publishing and archival projects have continued to exist in the form of Borges Bookstore Art Institution. At No. 7 Changxing Street, the Borges bookstore is located on the third floor, and the video bureau on the second floor is a non-profit organization for video art co-founded by Chen Tong and others. Borges has survived more than a dozen relocations and has always been proud to survive as a maverick, sitting and reading a book here, touching the figurative charm of words with your fingertips, and a sense of calm and tranquility arises.
