It is no exaggeration to say that when I entered Liyuan Primary School, I basically stepped into a famous school with half a foot.
Liyuan Primary School is located in Futian District, the central urban area of Shenzhen, and was founded in 1981. The school has three campuses in the south, north and west, covering a total area of 27,903 square meters, and is basically undisputed as the primary school with the most superior conditions in Shenzhen.
The results of Liyuan Primary School are very dazzling, and it has ranked first in the junior high school and various cup competitions in recent years. In the 2016 junior high school entrance examination, a total of 8 students from Liyuan were admitted to the top prestigious school in Guangdong Province, the High School Affiliated to China Normal School (see the CNPP100 Ranking of the Best Public Junior High Schools in Guangzhou), and contributed nearly one-third of the total number of admitted students in more than 560 primary schools in Shenzhen. In the same year, another 79 students from Liyuan Primary School were admitted to Shenzhen Foreign Chinese Language School, accounting for 18.5% of the city's admitted students. In 2017, Liyuan Primary School was admitted to Shenzhen Foreign Chinese School, Shenzhen Middle School "3 2" and "3 3", and Shenzhen Lihe Foreign Chinese School with as many as 68, 53 and 109 students, accounting for 16.7%, 15.1% and 22.7% of the total number of students admitted in the city, respectively. In addition, in the largest, most formal and most difficult Hua Cup (Hua Luogeng Gold Cup Youth Mathematics Invitational Competition) in the primary school stage, Liyuan Primary School also performed brilliantly, especially in the senior group, and the number of students who won the first prize in the past five years accounted for more than 10% of the city.
Such outstanding results are naturally inseparable from the strong faculty and teaching level. There are 198 teachers, of which 77% have a bachelor's degree, and more than 40% of the teachers are backbone teachers at all levels. Many parents said that the teachers at Liyuan Primary School were extremely responsible for teaching and did not relax in class. In class, the teacher will supplement the knowledge, such as mathematics and some simple Olympiad problems. In Liyuan Primary School, except for the logistics service staff, there is no staff who have left the classroom, and the principal, vice principal, and educational management personnel all have to go to the front line to teach without exception. In addition, as the parents of Liyuan students, they also need to shoulder more educational responsibilities, and the after-school homework assigned by the school needs to be cooperated with by parents. Especially at the beginning of the first grade, the speed of pinyin teaching is relatively fast, and children may not be able to fully grasp it in class. Therefore, it is recommended to learn pinyin, handwriting and arithmetic in advance in the year before school to prepare for the transition between kindergarten and primary school.
Liyuan Primary School is also notoriously large in terms of homework. Homework in the first and second grades takes an hour to complete, and after the third grade, the amount of homework increases significantly, and with the addition of homework in extracurricular classes, it usually takes 10 p.m. to complete. Of course, the focus on learning does not mean that Liyuan aims to cultivate nerds who can only take exams, and its extracurricular activities are also quite rich. For example, the school has a choir, wind ensemble, dance team, track and field team, art class, chess class, and Spanish extracurricular classes from the third grade. As long as you have sufficient time and energy, you can participate in these clubs or activities.
There is little difference in teaching between the three campuses of Liyuan Primary School, and each grade usually has 5 or 6 classes with about 45 students per class. There is a 2-hour break at noon and school ends at 16:15 in the afternoon. The school has a lunch day, but the site is simple, and only two tables can be put together as beds, so it can only meet the needs of half of the children's day care, and the rest of the children can only go to the nearby day care institution in Tongxinling Community.
The three campuses are not too far apart, but the prices of real estate in the school districts vary greatly. The school district of the North Campus includes the first and second phases of Baihuayuan, buildings 1-3 of Nantianyi Garden, 1-5 Baihua Apartments, and 15 and 16 buildings of the Great Wall Building, with a price of about 83,000-127,000 yuan/㎡. The South Campus includes many campuses and residential buildings within the range from Hongling South Road to Binhe Avenue, with a price of about 59,000-97,000 yuan/㎡. The enrollment scope of the West Campus is in the rectangular area formed by Shennan Middle Road, Zhenhua Road, Shangbu Middle Road and Yannan Road, and the price of school district housing is about 48,000-75,000 yuan/㎡. The above price information is as of March 2018.
