Bio Island is a well-known infant nutritional supplement brand in Australia, founded in 2008, is the nutritional sponsor brand of the Australian swimming team, although it has not been established for a long time, but it is famous enough to compare with the other two old Australian health care products Blackmores and Swisse.
 
Bio Island is the best-selling fish oil brand on Tmall, but it currently has only one fish oil product, and it's a capsule version of a blend of cod liver oil and fish oil. Unlike Norwegian cod liver oil brands, Bio Island Fish Oil Blend is significantly lower in vitamin A, D and Omega-3 content, and is not highly effective in supplementation.
 
On the other hand, Bio Island has algal oil supplements that are also effective in supplementing DHA. In the conventional wisdom, only fish are the source of Omega-3, but in fact, fish are just "nature's porters", and their DHA and EPA are directly or indirectly ingested from microalgae. In most cases, the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids in natural fish oil is low, and in some algae, it can reach 40% of the total oil content, which is equivalent to 16.48% of the dry weight of the algae.
 
Bio Island algal oil is available in two types: infant and maternity, and the pregnant algal oil has a higher DHA content, containing 525mg of algal oil per capsule, of which 210mg of DHA. The DHA extracted from algal oil is purer and does not contain EPA and fish substances, so it can also be used by people with seafood allergies. Some review websites show that the DHA content of Bio Island algal oil does not meet the national standard, but the standard they quote "LS/T 3243-2015" is actually applicable to DHA algal oil additives, not Bio Island algal oil as a health supplement. The Chinese Nutrition Society recommends that babies consume 100mg of DHA per day, and the concentration of Bio Island algae oil is actually very appropriate.
 
Overall, Bio Island fish oil is very low and awkward to use, so it is not recommended to use it as a separate source of DHA, if you want to choose pure DHA, Bio Island algae oil is a very good choice.
