Vaseline Vaseline brand introduction

Vaseline Vaselinelogo

Unilever (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Vaseline Vaseline, originated in the United States in 1870, is a world-renowned original professional moisturizing skin care brand, Vaseline Body Lotion has a significant effect on improving skin dryness

Vaseline ™ believes that truly healthy skin comes from deep repair and nourishment. Hiding issues or fixing them quickly won't work well. We know this because Vaseline is one of the world's most original professional skincare brands. Founded in 1870 by Robert Chessenburg, Vaseline ™ has helped countless consumers repair dry skin in North America for more than 140 years. We invite you to join us in recalling Vaseline's journey of repairing dry skin for more than 100 years since its founding......

In 1859, jelly was discovered: Robert Augustus Chesenburg, a 22-year-old British chemist, traveled to Titusville, a small town in Pennsylvania, where oil had just been discovered. Chesenburg, who has been engaged in the extraction of liquid fuel from whale fat, is anxious to find out what other products can be extracted from oil. Soon after arriving in Titusville, he became interested in a naturally occurring by-product of the drilling process that appeared to have a significant effect on repairing skin wounds. While observing the oil workers, Fort Chessen noticed that they applied residues from drilling to knife wounds or burns to help repair wounds. Inspired by this, Fort Chessen began a journey to help North Americans repair their dry skin.

In 1865, the jelly was purified: after five years of perfecting the extraction technology, Chessenburg patented the jelly process in 1865, thus initiating the triple purification process unique to the Vaseline ™ brand.

1870, Repair Jelly: Chessenburg was a true scientist who spent more than a decade perfecting the extraction and purification process before introducing the "Repair Jelly" to the North American public on a large scale. After seeing firsthand the safety and purity of Repair Jelly in a variety of different uses, Chesenburg was confident that his products would be a big hit in the medical industry, so he opened a factory in Brooklyn, New York, in 1870.

In 1872, the official name originated: although the "Repair Jelly" already had a beautiful aura, in 1872 Chesenburg registered it as "Vaseline", which is believed to be a combination of the German word "wasser" and the Greek word "oleon". The new name is a huge success! In 1874, just two years after the brand's founding, Vaseline ™ Classic Repair Jelly became popular in the United States at a rate of one can per minute. That's more than 1,400 cans sold per day!

In the 80s of the 19th century, Vaseline ™ was used for many different purposes: People began to explore the many different safe uses of pure Vaseline ™ Classic Repair Jelly, and soon almost every drug counter in the United States was selling it. New mothers use it to prevent baby diaper rash, while professionals working in extreme cold weather use it to relieve dry and chapped skin. However, with the success comes a scramble for imitation in the market. Imitation jelly began to pop up all over the United States. To ensure that consumers are getting the finest refined jelly, Chessenburg has introduced a significant blue logo to mark the original. Today, all Vaseline ™ emollients still use the blue logo, such as our body lotion, because they contain a triple refined Vaseline ™ microgel jelly.

In 1883, Royal Courtesy: The highest honour a British monarch can bestow on his subjects is the knighthood. Queen Victoria, who ruled more than a quarter of the world's population at the time, not only made it clear that Chessenburg deserved this highest honor, but also informed the tireless chemist that she was also a loyal user of this revolutionary and versatile product, and had used Vaseline ™ Classic Repair Jelly to help her repair dry skin.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the world expanded: Vaseline ™ Classic Repair Jelly spread from state to state, and "loyal users" saw it as one of the safest and purest options for repairing and emollientizing. To accommodate this rapid expansion, Fort Chessen moved its U.S. manufacturing facility to Ambois, Perth, New Jersey, with facilities opening in Europe, Canada, and Africa. In 1908, Sir Robert Chesenburg retired from his position as president of the company.

In 1969, the Vaseline Moisturizer was launched: Vaseline launched the Vaseline ™ Doubling Body Lotion and it was an instant success. The product was released with one of the brand's earliest promotions, the "Signature Green Leaf Experiment". Advertisements published on TV and in print show a dried leaf gradually coming back to life under the effect of body lotion, emphasizing that dry skin needs to be repaired and protected, not just covered and beautified.

When Unilever acquired Chesebrough-Pond's Inc. in 1987, the Vaseline ™ range had grown to sell a wide range of emollients in Miami, Moscow, Melbourne, Mumbai and around the world, including lip care products and body lotions that protect dry skin.

In 2000, a record was broken when a jar of Vaseline jelly was sold somewhere in the world every 39 seconds.
