Brand story

Polaroid was a pioneer and expert in polarized lens technology, inventing the first artificial polarized lens in 1929. While studying at Harvard University, Edwin Land invented and patented the first artificial polarized lens that produced a polarized light effect.

In 1937, the Polaroid Company was founded, paving the way for the production of exceptional lenses and high-quality sunglasses, and to establish a successful brand.
Polaroid stands for "Polarizing Celluloid" and is the innovation that gave the company its name.

In 1937, the newly founded Polaroid sold its first pair of sunglasses, and that was just the beginning. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the engineers, Polaroid successfully exhibited the first 3D cinema glasses at the 1939 New York World's Fair.

The Polaroid Air Force and sports goggle collections made with Polaroid ® lenses are highly sought after by celebrities and combat heroes.

In 1950, Polaroid Eyewear launched the Cool Ray collection, the most advanced sunglasses at the time, to protect the eyes from reflected glare.

Polaroid's release of the unique Windsor rimmed sunglasses became the new trend in the 60s. On the other hand, in 1962, Polaroid produced its fourth millionth instant imaging camera.
