STMicroelectronics brand introduction

STMicroelectronics logo

STMicroelectronics (China) Investment Co., Ltd., founded in 1988, is a well-known (famous) chip brand, dedicated to multimedia application integration and power solutions, a global manufacturer of dedicated analog chips and power conversion chips, focusing on providing nonvolatile memory for consumer electronics and industrial equipment

The STMicroelectronics Group was founded in June 1988 through the merger of SGS Microelectronics of Italy and Thomson Semiconductors of France. In May 1998, SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics changed its name to STMicroelectronics Limited. STMicroelectronics is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies.

Aiming to be the market leader in integrated multimedia applications and power solutions, ST has one of the world's strongest portfolios, ranging from specialized products with high intellectual property content to innovative products in a wide range of areas, such as discretes, high-performance microcontrollers, secure smart card chips, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices.

STMicroelectronics is a pioneer in developing complex ICs using a platform-based approach to demanding applications such as mobile multimedia, set-top boxes, and computer peripherals, and continues to evolve this approach. ST has a well-proportioned portfolio to meet the needs of all microelectronics users. Strategic customers around the world have selected ST as their preferred partner for system-on-chip (SoC) projects, and the company provides end-to-end support to local companies to meet their needs for general-purpose devices and solutions.

STMicroelectronics has announced its intention to form a joint venture with Intel and Francisco Partners to form an independent semiconductor company, called Numonyx, which will focus on nonvolatile memory solutions for consumer electronics and industrial devices.

ST has a large global network of pre- and post-wafer manufacturing (pre-fab for wafer fabrication and back-end for assembly, packaging, and test). The company is in the midst of a transition to a capital-intensive manufacturing strategy and recently unveiled plans to shut down some of its older factories. Currently, ST's main wafer fabs are located in Agrate Brianza and Catania in Italy, Crolles, Rousset and Tours in France, Phoenix and Carrollton in the United States, and Singapore. High-efficiency assembly and test facilities in China, Malaysia, Malta, Morocco and Singapore provide strong back-end support for these state-of-the-art fabs.
