Texas Instruments was founded by Sethel M. H. Green, J. Eric Johnson, Eugene McDermott, Patrick M. E. Haggerty was founded in 1947. It was originally used by its parent company, Geophysical Service Incorporated (GSI), to produce the newly invented transistor.

McDermott was the founder of GSI when it was first founded in 1930. McDermott, Green, and Johnson later bought the company in 1941.
