DMC products have been well-known in the United States since the 30s of the 20th century, long before DMC entered the United States in 1934.
In the 70s of the 20th century, in order to facilitate access to Port Elizabeth, the port of import of DMC products, DMC moved its original company in New York to Elizabethtown. During the '90s, DMC moved its offices and warehouse facilities to a new building in South Carney, New Jersey.
Today, DMC has subsidiaries and agents in 100 countries around the world, and DMC products are sold in nearly 130 countries. DMC embroidery threads are still produced in the factory in Mulhouse, France, with about 1,000 workers working around the clock in three shifts. The DMC plant adheres to the highest environmental standards and has its own water recycling system. In fact, in 1994 DMC was awarded the ISO 9002 international standard for manufacturing excellence, and DMC's high environmental standards led to the International Eco-Textile Association Standard 100 certification. On December 18, 2009, DMC announced the acquisition of the Craft and Fabrics division of Charlie Crafts Ltd. Charlie Craft is a leader in craft embroidery fabrics in the U.S. market, and the collaboration with DMC is the icing on the cake for the highest quality DMC embroidery threads. The acquisition of Charlie Craft strengthens DMC's leading position in the handicraft industry and brings more high-quality embroidery products.
