With over 250 years of experience in 67 countries, Anchor has developed high-quality lines of creative crafts in all forms around the world, based on generations of expertise and passion. The history of the Anchor brand dates back to 1866, when the Clark family used the Anchor brand for embroidery threads produced in Paisley, Scotland. Around 1812, due to Napoleon's blockade, Britain was unable to obtain a supply of silk, so embroidery threads were created. The two weavers, James and Patrick Clark, turned their attention to cotton and managed to produce yarns that were fine, smooth and strong enough to be used to weave instead of silk. At that time, sewing thread was mainly silk or linen, and the Clark brothers developed cotton yarn as the first cotton sewing thread.
