Since its release in August 2022, Stability AI, a world-renowned AI art generation tool, has been widely used in art creation, program development and other fields due to its fast image generation speed and low resource and memory requirements. Stable Diffusion currently mainly provides image editing, super resolution, style transfer, restoration, completion and other functions, which can be downloaded and run on computers and mobile phones.
The core technology of Stable Diffusion comes from Patrick Esser of Runway, an AI video editing technology startup, and Robin Romabach of the Machine Vision Learning Group of the University of Munich. The technical basis for the project is mainly based on the Latent Diffusion Model research that the two developers previously co-presented at CVPR22, a computer vision conference.
Compared with large models such as DALL-E, Stable Diffusion allows users to quickly implement Wensheng graphics using consumer-grade graphics cards. Stable Diffusion is completely free and open source, and all code is publicly available on GitHub, so anyone can copy and use it.
The first version of the Stable Diffusion model cost $600,000 to train, and it was Stability AI that provided the financial backing. The company was founded in 2020 with initial funding from founder and CEO Emad Mostaque.
