The university has 26,000 teachers and students from more than 100 countries distributed in 16 departments, teaching and research fields covering architecture, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and management science, as of 06 years has produced 21 Nobel laureates, including Einstein, is currently one of the largest number of Nobel Prize winners in the world, there are still many laureates in the front line of teaching and research, the school is also a member of the International Alliance of Research Universities, IDEA Alliance and other international university cooperation organizations.

ETH Zurich is ranked 9th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2015/2016, with 3rd in engineering and technology and 4th in natural sciences. In 2014, the Academic Ranking of World Universities ranked 19th in the world in terms of overall rankings.

The Swiss federal government has only two technical universities: the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, which are financed by the federal treasury.

History

Albert Einstein was fond of the natural sciences as a child, but German conscription and German constraints led him to study in Zurich. In 1895, Albert Einstein came to Zurich, Switzerland, to apply for the school, and although he did well in mathematics and physics, he did not do well in other subjects, and the school's principal recommended him to study at the Aarau State High School in Switzerland for a year to make up for his studies. In 1896, Albert Einstein was admitted to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. In 1900, Albert Einstein graduated from university. And from here he went to the world and became a well-known physicist. After nearly 200 years of trials and hardships, ETH Zurich has made remarkable achievements and enjoys the reputation of the first polytechnic university in continental Europe.

Geographical environment

ETH Zurich's main campus is located in the heart of Zurich, founded in the 1860s, adjacent to the University of Zurich, where the departments of mathematics, mechanics, electronics, and computer science are scattered and integrated into the city. Since the 1960s the university built a new campus in the northern part of the city, also known as Akademgorodok, at the foot of the Hönggerberg Mountains, which concentrated the faculties of materials, architecture, civil engineering, physics, biology and chemistry. The two campuses are 5 km apart and are served daily by school buses in about 15 minutes, which can also be easily reached by Zurich bus.
