Guangxi University is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, which is picturesque and has the reputation of "Green City", and is the oldest and largest comprehensive university in Guangxi, and is also the only national "211 Project" school in Guangxi. The school was founded in 1928, which was the first higher education in Guangxi. The first principal was Dr. Ma Junwu, a famous educator, scientist and democratic revolutionary in China, one of the "North Cai (Cai Yuanpei) South Malaysia" in the education sector. In 1939, Guangxi University became a national university, and a number of famous scholars such as Zhu Kezhen, Li Siguang, Chen Wangdao, Chen Yinke, and Wang Li taught here, and it was one of the comprehensive universities with great influence in China at that time. In 1952, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inscribed the name of Guangxi University, and in the same year, the Agricultural College of Guangxi University was established independently and Guangxi Agricultural College was established. In 1953, Guangxi University was suspended in the adjustment of colleges and universities across the country, and teachers and students, as well as equipment and library materials, were adjusted to 19 universities in Central and South China, making great contributions and sacrifices to the development of higher education in New China. In 1958, the State Council approved the restoration and reconstruction of Guangxi University. In 1997, the former Guangxi University merged with the former Guangxi Agricultural University (Guangxi Agricultural College was renamed Guangxi Agricultural University in 1992) to form the new Guangxi University, embarking on a new journey of creating a high-level university. In the course of more than 80 years of running the university, Guangxi University has gradually formed the school motto of "diligence, simplicity and sincerity", and has accumulated and precipitated distinctive characteristics of running a school, profound humanistic heritage and unique spirit of Western University.
In recent years, as the university has become a national "211 Project" university, a provincial and ministerial university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Guangxi, and a university under the plan to improve the comprehensive strength of universities in the central and western regions, Guangxi University has achieved sound and rapid development, the school's comprehensive school-running strength and competitiveness have been significantly enhanced, the discipline characteristics have become more distinct, the quality of education and teaching and the level of scientific research have been significantly improved, and the service ability and social influence for local economic and social development have been greatly improved.
At present, the university has 31 colleges, covering 10 disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, management, education, art, etc., with 98 undergraduate majors, 36 master's programs in first-level disciplines, 211 master's programs in second-level disciplines, 8 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines, 60 doctoral programs in second-level disciplines and 10 postdoctoral research stations. There are 2 national key disciplines and 1 national key (cultivation) discipline; Engineering, materials science, and agricultural science are among the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world, and the number of citations in botany and zoology is close to the ESI threshold (potential value exceeds 70%). There are 1 State Key Laboratory and 1 State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base jointly established by the Ministry of Education, 4 Key Laboratories and Engineering Research Centers of the Ministry of Education, 1 Key Laboratory of the State Forestry Administration and a number of key laboratories, engineering technology research centers and research bases in Guangxi. There are 4 Guangxi "2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers and Collaborative Innovation Center Cultivation Bases", 1 Guangxi Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences, and 6 Guangxi University Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The school pays attention to scientific and technological innovation, strives to serve the society, and has produced a number of original achievements with significant impact. Among them, Professor Wang Pijian has been engaged in the research of cattle and pig crossbreeding and improvement for a long time, and won the "Science Pioneer" award at the International Buffalo Conference, and the advanced individual award at the National Science Conference in 1978; The "Indica Hybrid Rice" project presided over by researcher Zhang Xiancheng won the 1981 National Special Invention Award; The project of "Research and Development of Bovine in Vitro Fertilization Technology" undertaken by Professor Lu Kehuan (the second completer) won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2000; The project "Development and Application of High Activity A-acetyllactate Decarboxylase" presided over by Professor Huang Ribo won the second prize of the 2007 National Science and Technology Progress Award; The project "Key Technologies and Applications of Typical Wastewater Resource Utilization and Ultra-low Discharge of Papermaking and Fermentation" presided over by Professor Wang Shuangfei won the second prize of the 2016 National Science and Technology Progress Award. In 2013, as the host unit, the school won 1 Guangxi Science and Technology Special Contribution Award and 4 first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including "Anti-gravity near-terminal casting technology and its application" presided over by Professor Zeng Jianmin, "Research on key technologies of jet air arc extinguishing lightning protection gap to greatly reduce lightning accident rate, trip rate and line breakage rate" presided over by Professor Wang Jufeng, and "Integrated innovation of key equipment and engineering technology for high-concentration organic wastewater treatment in light industry process" presided over by Professor Wang Shuangfei The results of the project are that our university won the Guangxi Science and Technology Special Contribution Award for the first time, the first prize of the Guangxi Technological Invention Award, and the first prize of the Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Science and Technology) of the Ministry of Education. In 2015, he won 3 first prizes of Guangxi Science and Technology Achievement Award, among which the project results of "Radiation Composition and Physical Origin of Gamma Ray Burst and Afterglow" presided over by Professor Liang Enwei and "Research on Key Technologies and Mechanisms of Buffalo Somatic Cell Cloning and Stem Cell System Construction" presided over by Professor Shi Deshun won 2 first prizes of Natural Science Award. In 2016, Professor Tang Jiliang presided over the project "Research on the Regulatory Mechanism and Effectors of the Secretion System of Cruciferous Black Rot Type III" won the first prize of Guangxi Natural Science Award. The school also closely combines the major regional and local strategic needs to deepen the scientific and technological cooperation between the school city, the school hall, the school and the local government, and the school enterprise, so as to provide strong scientific and technological support for the local economic and social development. At present, Professor Shen Peikang has taken the lead in creating the world's only three-dimensional graphene pilot production line with an annual output of 1.5 tons, and a pilot production line with an annual output of 15 tons is under construction. Since 2014, the research team led by Professor Yu has continuously conducted systematic scientific investigations on the coral reefs of the South China Sea Zhudao, including Huangyan Dao, and obtained a large number of first-hand research samples in China, which is of great significance for the protection and development of the South China Sea and coastal areas in China. In 2016, the university was approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China for 113 projects, applied for 2,800 invention patents, authorized 451 invention patents, and successfully transferred or licensed 30 patented technical achievements. Since the beginning of the new century, Guangxi has won a total of 5 major projects of the National Social Science Fund and major research projects of philosophy and social science research of the Ministry of Education, accounting for nearly half (45.5%) of the major national projects in Guangxi's history. Among them, in 2016, the university won 2 national major projects, and in the same year, it was approved by the National Social Science Fund for 18 projects. During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the university won 2 third prizes of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) and 143 Guangxi Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards. The university, together with 28 member units including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Nankai University, has established the China-ASEAN Regional Development Collaborative Innovation Center, and the "China-ASEAN Regional Development Research and Innovation Team" has been selected as the Changjiang Scholars and Innovation Team Development Program of the Ministry of Education, and is the only Chinese national-level innovation team in the field of China-ASEAN studies.

The KAB Entrepreneurship Club of Guangxi University was ranked among the top ten in the country. Over the past 80 years, the university has cultivated more than 380,000 professionals for the country and society, among which 8 alumni, Li Lin, Dang Hongxin, Chen Taiyi, Shen Shanjiong, Lu Hefu, Wen Shengchang, Shi Ruwei and Han Bin, were elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. There are also many alumni who have grown into leaders of party committees and government departments at all levels, experts and backbones from all walks of life, and the main force of local economic construction. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently 27 alumni serving as leaders of large central and local state-owned enterprises, and 502 alumni serving as leaders at or above the department (bureau) level. The school has vigorously strengthened the construction of school-running infrastructure, and after years of development, the conditions for teaching and scientific research equipment have been greatly improved. The campus covers an area of more than 4,700 acres, with a total construction area of more than 1.6 million square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 1.529 billion yuan, and it has a collection of 7.55 million books of various types (including the college reference room), including 3.78 million paper books and 3.77 million electronic books. There are 35,000 full-text electronic journals and 85 large-scale Chinese and foreign language databases, and the construction of digital library has a certain scale, which has formed a literature information guarantee system that attaches equal importance to paper literature and electronic literature, which effectively supports the discipline construction and talent training of our university.

The Ministry of Education and the Party Committee and Government of Guangxi Autonomous Region attach great importance to the development of Guangxi University. On January 8 this year, Secretary Peng Qinghua came to our university to inspect and delivered an important speech, establishing the development orientation of "building a first-class comprehensive research university with reasonable layout and distinctive characteristics". On September 20, Chairman Chen Wu came to the university to preside over the on-site office meeting, proposing to "accelerate the construction of first-class universities and first-class disciplines, and build the vanguard of the reform and development of Guangxi universities, the vanguard of scientific research and industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and the vanguard of high-end talent training and growth". On September 21, Minister Chen Baosheng of the Ministry of Education and Vice Minister Lin Huiqing came to our school to inspect and made it clear that our university is a key university supported by Guangxi's "one province, one school" policy.
