The University of Chicago (UChicago), located in Chicago, the international financial center of the United States, is a world-renowned private research university and is ranked among the top 10 universities in the world for many years. It is one of the most important research and teaching centers in economics, law and sociology in the world, with more than 35% of the world's Nobel laureates in economics and more than 35% of the world's Nobel laureates in economics. Since the Manhattan Project, a large number of scientists have gathered here, and under the leadership of Fermi, the "father of atomic energy", the world's first nuclear reactor ("Chicago Pile 1" ("Chicago Pile 1") was established, successfully opening the era of human atomic energy, and establishing the first national laboratory in the United States, Argonne National Laboratory, and later the famous Fermi Laboratory, thus establishing the important position of Chiba University in the natural science community.

Founded in 1890 by oil magnate John D. Rockefeller, the University of Chicago is known for producing Nobel Prize winners. As of 2017, a total of 92 Nobel laureates have worked or studied at the University, ranking fifth in the world. Chinese Nobel laureates in physics Chenning Yang, Tsung-Dao Lee and Qi Cui all received Ph.Ds in physics from the University of Chicago. Nine other Fields Medal winners (7th in the world), 4 Turing Award winners (9th in the world), and 22 Pulitzer Prize winners have worked or studied at the University. Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States, was a long-time faculty member at Chicago Law School (1992-2004).

In 2017-18, the University of Chicago was ranked 3rd in the United States in the US News Undergraduate Rankings, 9th in the world in the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 10th in the world in the Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU), and 14th in the world in the USNEWS World University Rankings.
