Chinese Renmin University of China is a comprehensive research university focusing on humanities and social sciences, directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality. The predecessor of the school was Shaanbei Public School, which was born in 1937 in the flames of the Anti-Japanese War, and later North China United University and North China University. On December 16, 1949, the 11th Administrative Council of the Central People's Government adopted the Decision on the Establishment of the Chinese People's University on the recommendation of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. On October 3, 1950, the Chinese Renmin University, which was established by merging on the basis of North China University, held a grand opening ceremony, becoming the first new type of regular university founded in New China. Famous educators Wu Yuzhang, Cheng Fangwu, Yuan Baohua, Huang Da, Li Wenhai, Ji Baocheng and Chen Yulu successively served as principals. The current Secretary of the Party Committee is Professor Jin Nuo, and the President is Professor Liu Wei.

Chinese University has long formed an all-round and multi-level school-running pattern based on undergraduate education, focusing on graduate education, and supplemented by continuing education, and has formed a discipline development system of "backbone liberal arts, capable science and engineering". In the 15th consecutive national selection of 100 outstanding doctoral dissertations, Chinese min University was selected 29 papers, accounting for 12% of the total number of outstanding doctoral dissertations in humanities and social sciences in the country, ranking first among all universities and research institutes. Chinese Renmin University is an important humanities and social sciences data center, information center and book publishing center in China. The school library has a collection of 3.92 million paper books (including more than 400,000 wire-bound ancient books), 2.97 million electronic books, and has a "Liberal Arts Literature and Information Center of the Ministry of Education". The Center for Books and Periodicals of Renmin University of Chinese is the earliest information and data provider engaged in the collection, collation, editing and publication of humanities and social sciences literature in New China, and publishes 148 kinds of journals and six series of database products in the field of humanities and social sciences. Chinese Renmin University Press is the first university press established after the founding of New China, and is an important publishing base for liberal arts textbooks and academic and theoretical works of humanities and social sciences in China's colleges and universities.
