Jilin University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Founded in 1946, the university was listed as a national key university in 1960, one of the first 22 universities to establish a graduate school in 1984, the first batch to be approved by the "211 Project" of the State Education Commission in 1995, listed in the "985 Project" in 2001, and approved as a school directly managed by the central government in 2004.
In 2000, the former Jilin University, Jilin University of Technology, Bethune Medical University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications merged to form New Jilin University. In 2004, the former Chinese People's Liberation Army Quartermaster University was transferred and merged.
The university has a complete range of disciplines, with 44 colleges, covering all 13 university disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, military science, and art. There are 126 undergraduate majors, 56 master's degree programs in first-level disciplines, 44 doctoral degree programs in first-level disciplines, 291 master's degree programs, 244 doctoral degree programs, and 42 postdoctoral research stations. There are 4 national key disciplines of first-level disciplines (covering 17 second-level disciplines), 15 national key disciplines of second-level disciplines, 4 national key (cultivation) disciplines, and 47 first-class universities and first-class discipline construction projects. The ESI ranking of 9 disciplines (fields) is in the top 1% in the world, and 2 of them are ranked in the top 1‰ in the world.
The school has a strong teaching force, with 6,624 teachers, including 2,014 professors and 1,213 doctoral supervisors. There are 37 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (27 double appointments), 7 senior professors of philosophy and social sciences, 20 members of the discipline evaluation group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, 39 candidates of the "Thousand Talents Program", 18 candidates of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 9 national famous teachers, 5 chief experts of the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project, 5 chief scientists of the national "973" Program (including major scientific research plans), and 13 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country. There are 44 winners of the "Changjiang Scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of Education, 33 winners of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 20 winners of the National Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, and 93 candidates for the "Changbai Mountain Scholars" in Jilin Province.
At present, the university has 5 State Key Laboratories, 1 National Engineering Laboratory, 6 National and Local Joint Engineering Experiments, 1 National Engineering Technology Research Center, 6 Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, 11 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education, and 23 Key Laboratories of Other Industry Ministries and Commissions. The university has undertaken a large number of national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and has produced a number of high-tech achievements with good industrialization prospects and high technical content.
The school has established a complete high-level talent training system of bachelor's, master's and doctor's. There are 70,157 full-time students, including 25,084 doctoral and master's students, 43,601 junior college students, 1,472 international students, and 170947 adult education students.
At present, the university has established cooperative relations with 270 universities and scientific research institutions in 39 countries and regions. Among them, 36 are ranked in the top 100 in the world and 54 are in the top 200. The university has cooperated with universities and scientific research institutions in 11 countries to build 32 Sino-foreign cooperation platforms.

The school has 6 campuses and 7 campuses, covering an area of more than 6.11 million square meters and a building area of 2.74 million square meters. The school has a Zhuhai campus in Zhuhai, covering an area of 5,000 acres. The school library has a collection of 7.57 million books of various kinds, which has been identified as the collection of UNESCO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Bank. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the CALIS Northeast Regional Center is one of the seven centers in China.
