Comcast Telecom is the world's largest annual revenue broadcasting and cable company, the largest cable company in the United States, the domestic Internet service provider, and the country's largest third telephone service provider. Comcast serves home and business customers in all 40 states and the District of Columbia. The company is headquartered in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.
Since 2011 Comcast has been the owner of NBCUniversal, an international media company that operates the cable television channel (E! Entertainment TV, Golf Channels, and NBCSN), national channels (NBC and Telemundo), major movie studios Universal Pictures, and Universal Studios Resorts. Comcast also operates a significant digital communication platform. In February 2014, the company agreed to merge Time Warner Cable for a $452 million share swap agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Comcast acquired and wholly operated Time Warner Cable.
Founded in 1963 by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron and Julian A. Brodsky in Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi, the company was initially called American Cable Systems, providing cable television service to the city with only 1,200 subscribers. Comcast Corporation was founded in 1969 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the company went public on NASDAQ in 1972.

In 2007, Comcast acquired Patroit Media for $480 million, bringing nearly 81,000 cable subscribers to Comcast and expanding its reach to New Jersey.
In 2009, Comcast announced that it would negotiate with GE to buy NBC, the largest television channel in the United States, and Comcast would acquire a 51% stake.
In 2014, it acquired Time Warner Cable, the second-largest cable operator in the United States.
