Global People Magazine, which is supervised and sponsored by People's Daily, is the first people journal in China with a global perspective. Since its inception in 2006, Global People magazine has successfully planned and reported a series of major topics such as "The Mysterious Successor of North Korea", "The Legend of Xi Zhongxun's Family", "Cui Jian's 30 Years of Ups and Downs", "Five Tricks of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to Catch Corrupt Officials", "People and Things in Qincheng Prison", and "The Leader's "Tsinghua Story", which have been widely praised by readers from all walks of life and have rapidly grown into one of the most influential current affairs journals in China.

As of 2013, the layout of the People's Daily has increased from four pages at its inception to 16 folios per day from Monday to Friday, with pages 1 to 4 for news, pages 5 to 12 for in-depth reports, and pages 13 to 16 for weekly magazines and special pages. On Saturdays and Sundays, there are 8 folio pages a day, with pages 1 to 4 for news and pages 5 to 8 for special pages. The news edition is separated from editorial and editorial to highlight timeliness and newsworthiness.
