SALEWA was founded in a small village in Munich, Germany

On July 8, 1935, Josef Liebhart, President of the German Harness Association, founded SALEWA GmbH in Munich. During World War II, the company mainly provided high-quality and durable horse harness and textile products to many equestrian enthusiasts at that time, and produced the first metal tube frame backpack. With the high demand for ski poles in the winter of 1952/53, SALEWA had a breakthrough in the field of sports products.

Started to become a supplier of mountaineering products

In 1955, SALEWA supported Hermann Huber's Andean expedition in the Cordillera, thus establishing SALEWA's professional status in mountaineering. At the same time, SALEWA has also added ice and snow equipment series such as ice axes and adjustable lightweight crampons to the product line.

In 1962, SALEWA developed an ultra-lightweight, fully adjustable crampons and became a leader in mountaineering equipment.

SALEWA creates a spherical market

After 1982, with the establishment of the Austrian branch, SALEWA began to expand its global business in Europe, the United States, Japan, New Zealand and other regions. At the same time, the Italian importer Heiner Oberrauch and his Ober Alp Group took over the SALEWA brand and led it to success. It has subsidiaries in 7 major European markets: Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and Spain, and has established sales channels in more than 30 other countries.

In the winter of 2009/2010, SALEWA launched the alpineXtrem Pro series, a top-of-the-line professional extreme mountaineering series. The long-term development of the SALEWA brand

In 1935, on July 8, 1935 Josef Liebhart opened the chapter of the SALEWA legend. SALEWA stands for SA (Sattler/saddler), LE (Leder/leather) WA (Waren/wares accessories), and the brand initially focused on the production of leather goods such as horse harness.

In 1939, SALEWA began to produce clothing and a wide range of leather goods, as well as to develop tubular backpacks and ski poles.

In 1948, SALEWA struggled with the currency reform in Germany after World War II, during which time it also produced leather camera bags for Agfa.
