Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is an integrated company formed by the merger of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Mitsubishi Oil & Chemical Co., Ltd. on October 1, 1994. Mitsubishi Chemical's sales are the largest in the Japanese chemical industry.

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is the largest chemical company in Japan. The Company offers its wide range of products through its three main segments: Functional Materials and Plastics Products (including Information & Electronics, Specialty Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals); petrochemical industry; Carbon & Agricultural Products. Although functional materials such as aluminum, flake plastic products and plastic packaging account for more than 55% of sales, the company has set long-term goals on specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Mitsubishi Chemical is in the process of restructuring and managing reforms to make it profitable.

Founded in 1950 for 57 years, the Mitsubishi Chemical Group has grown into a multinational corporation with 371 subsidiaries in the fields of petrochemicals, functional products, and health care, including 113 multinational companies operating in 17 countries around the world. With sales of 2.6 trillion yen, it is the No. 1 chemical company in Japan and the No. 5 chemical company in the world. Since Mitsubishi Chemical began exporting fertilizers to China in 1963 and established a local subsidiary in Hong Kong in 1972, Mitsubishi Chemical has expanded its business in China mainly focused on product processing, and has now expanded its business to a wide range of fields such as polypropylene blends and pharmaceuticals. In 2012, it ranked 252nd in the list of the top 500 companies in the world.
