In 1974, production began in Embraco in Joinville, southern Brazil. Initially supplying the Brazilian refrigerator industry, which at the time relied on imported compressors, the products were sold on five continents over the next decade. With the globalization of the economy in the early 90s of the 20th century, Embraco began to set up production bases outside Brazil and expand global sales, consolidating its position as a global leader.

In addition to its range of compressors, Embraco manufactures electrical components, castings, complete refrigeration systems, and electronic components for the optimization of appliances for domestic and commercial refrigeration equipment at its plants in Brazil, Italy, China, Slovakia and Mexico.

Technology leadership, operational excellence and sustainability are the strategic pillars that ensure Embraco outperforms other companies in the global marketplace. Its products are favored by some well-known automobile and home appliance manufacturers, and have won the attention of commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers.

The factory is equipped with the world's most advanced production, R&D equipment and quality testing instruments, and its products and management system have passed various international certifications. With more than 70 experienced and highly qualified professional and technical personnel, the R&D center has established scientific research cooperation projects with many top universities in China, and is the second largest R&D center outside the Brazilian headquarters. The R&D center strengthens Embraco's cooperation with refrigerator manufacturers to respond more quickly to market demands and provide more efficient and intelligent solutions. By 2013, the factory was equipped with four modern high-end compressor professional production lines, and the annual production capacity of compressors has reached 9 million units.
