For many years, Trimble has been working on the development of GPS devices for high-precision continuous operation base stations. In 2003, Trimble established a new joint venture with Nikon Corporation of Japan to design and manufacture optical mapping products, and is responsible for the sales of Nikon optical mapping products outside of Japan. In July, it acquired Applanix of Canada, and successfully entered the field of inertial navigation/GPS combination technology.
