Lishui is very rich in hydropower resources, with 3.278 million kilowatts of conventional hydropower resources available for development in the city, accounting for about 40% of the developable capacity in Zhejiang Province. In 2004, Jingning County was awarded the title of "China's Rural Hydropower Township" by the Ministry of Water Resources.

 

In November 2006, Lishui was named "China's No. 1 Hydropower City" by the Ministry of Water Resources. By the end of 2007, the total installed capacity of small hydropower (less than 50,000 kilowatts) was 1,225,900 kilowatts, making it the first prefecture-level city in the province and even the country to achieve more than one million installed capacity of small hydropower.

 

All counties (cities and districts) in the city have realized the electrification of rural hydropower. By the end of 2012, 797 hydropower stations had been built in the city, with a total installed capacity of 2.51 million kilowatts and a power generation capacity of 7.1 billion kilowatt-hours (including 794 rural hydropower stations with a total installed capacity of 1.53 million kilowatts and a power generation capacity of 5 billion kilowatt-hours).

 

"Lishui Hydropower" has become a golden business card of Lishui. By the end of 2016, 811 hydropower stations had been built in the city, with a total installed capacity of 2,667,100 kilowatts and a power generation capacity of 7.9 billion kilowatt-hours (including 807 rural hydropower stations with a total installed capacity of 1,589,100 kilowatts and a power generation capacity of 5.1 billion kilowatt-hours).
