Xiling Snow Mountain is located in Dayi County, Chengdu, with a total area of 483 square kilometers and a maximum altitude of 5,353 meters. Xiling Snow Mountain is named after Du Fu's poem "The window contains a thousand autumn snow in Xiling, and the door is anchored in the Dongwu Wanli boat", and is now a world natural heritage and a giant panda habitat.
Xiling Snow Mountain is divided into Dafeishui Scenic Area and Ski Scene Area, of which Dafeishui Scenic Area is mainly for hiking and sightseeing, and the Ski Scene Area is mainly for participating in characteristic snow (grass) sports and leisure projects. Xiling Snow Mountain is rich in natural resources, with a primeval forest coverage rate of 90%, and rare tree species such as ginkgo, fragrant fruit trees, and dove trees are planted in the scenic area, as well as giant pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, clouded leopards, macaques and other animals haunt the forest and mountain streams. In the scenic area, there are occasionally two or three macaques and small squirrels begging for food from visitors, and other animals are rare.
Xiling Snow Mountain has its own characteristics throughout the year. Spring and autumn are mainly for viewing, and mountain flowers and autumn leaves are the highlights. Summer is a good place to escape the heat. Winter is a good place to enjoy the snow, from the beginning of December to the end of March of the following year is the snow period, when the snow thickness reaches more than 60 centimeters, it is the golden period to see the sunrise, enjoy the sea of clouds, watch the snow scene and ski. Due to the changeable climate, there is still no snow in December in some years, and artificial snow will be laid in the scenic area at this time, which is quite different from natural snowfall.
Xiling Snow Mountain Ski Resort is located on the back slope of Xiling Snow Mountain, with an altitude of about 2,200 meters, with 5 beginner ski trails (3 kilometers in total), 1 intermediate ski trail (2 kilometers), 5 towing ropeways, 1 gondola and 1 four-person chairlift. There are more than 10 ice and snow amusement projects such as alpine skiing, snowmobiles, serpentine sledding, snow tubing, snow flying chips, snow assault boats, dog sledding, etc., and the price is relatively high. In summer, the ski resort becomes a grass-skiing area, which is less fun than skiing.
In addition to skiing, the scenery of Xiling Snow Mountain is a must. One of the most wonderful landscapes is the Yin-Yang Realm, which is the ridge separating the two climates of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Sichuan Basin, where the cold air flow of the western plateau and the warm air flow of the eastern basin meet, forming a peculiar "Yin and Yang" scene: the southeast of the ridge is clear blue sky and sunny, and the northwest side of the ridge is cloudy, hazy and dim, and the boundary is obvious. The yin-yang landscape appears all year round, but only noticeably in certain weather conditions.
Riyueping is the best viewing point of Xiling Snow Mountain, with an altitude of up to 3,250 meters, and when the weather is clear, you can see from afar, Emei Mountain, Gongga Mountain, Daxuetang and other high mountains are in full view. If you live in a hotel in the scenic area, you can enjoy the sunrise at Sun Moon Ping. In the Sun Moon Ping, you can often see a vast and magnificent sea of clouds, and the lucky ones can also enjoy the wonders of the sun and the moon shining together. Visitors usually take the cable car to reach Riyueping, it should be reminded that the altitude of Riyueping is high, and some tourists suffer from altitude sickness, so it is not recommended for tourists with heart disease and high blood pressure to go here.
Dafei Water Scenic Area is a full hiking sightseeing tour route, along the way you can enjoy the valley, strange rocks, waterfalls and a variety of animals and plants and colorful waterfalls, etc., the whole journey is 3.5 kilometers, and it takes 2-3 hours to walk unilaterally to the colorful waterfalls, and you can return the same way. Tourists mostly choose this route in spring, summer and autumn. In winter, most tourists take the ropeway to climb the mountain, enjoy the scenery, ski and other recreational activities, etc., and then take the shuttle bus and ropeway back.
In winter, you need to take measures to protect yourself from the cold and keep warm when going to Xiling Snow Mountain, and the price of food on the mountain is high, so it is recommended that tourists bring their own drinking water and meals. Xiling Snow Mountain is about 95 kilometers away from Chengdu downtown, tourists can take a bus to Dayi Station at Chadianzi Bus Station, and then take a special bus to Xiling Snow Mountain.
