The Jockey Club Mount Davis Youth Hostel is the same as Mei Ho House and belongs to the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association, but the two have very different styles. Located in Pokfulam, Hong Kong Island, Davis Ridge Youth Hostel is far away from the city and inaccessible, but it provides residents with a quiet and comfortable living environment, with a 270-degree balcony with sea views of Victoria Harbour and Tsing Ma Bridge. In addition to enjoying the sea view of Victoria Harbour, you can also visit the military relics of Mount Davis Fort, a Grade II historic building nearby, or walk from the hostel mountain road to Victoria Road.
The hostels of the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association attach great importance to the social functions of the residential area, whether it is the lobby, the recreation room or the viewing platform, the design of the social function of Davis Ridge has put great effort into the design. For example, different games such as chess, darts, and board games are available in the activity room, TV shows can be watched in the TV room, barbecue equipment is set up on the open-air platform, tables and chairs are also placed in a position suitable for multi-person communication, and guests can also book an activity room for 30 people in advance for group activities.
There are many room types in Davis Ridge, and the bed rooms are divided into male dormitory and female dormitory, and there are double rooms, double sea view rooms, quadruple rooms and six-person rooms. All rooms have their own reading lights, charging sockets, and lockers, which can be purchased at the front desk. The communal kitchen is fully equipped, and residents who wish to cook their own meals can purchase ingredients from the nearby Sme Mei Fei Road Market and Food Centre.
Mount Davis Youth Hostel also provides a complimentary shuttle bus to and from the hostel and Kennedy Town, the MTR station. The free shuttle service starts at 8am and ends at 10.45pm daily, with additional services on weekends and public holidays. However, the pick-up and drop-off interval at Mount Davis is not as short as that at the Hong Kong Campus Hostel, so guests who need to take the ride are advised to inquire in advance to determine the pick-up time and arrange their own plans.
Mt. Davis Youth Hostel is not as convenient as booking and staying in Meihe Building. Guests staying at Davis Ridge are required to hold an International Youth Hostel Card or a Hong Kong Hostel Association membership card, and non-members must also apply for membership on the day of check-in (HKYHAA one-year membership requires HK$150). Each member may bring three non-members into the room, while non-members will be charged the regular rate. In addition, if the occupant has a child under the age of 5, a parent or guardian declaration is required to stay with the parent or guardian. Mt. Davis also has a limited check-in time and is not a 24-hour reception service. The hostel is open daily from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. and the hostel doors are closed after hours. Check-in time is 3 p.m. and luggage storage is also available for a separate fee.
Due to the above restrictions, most of the residents of Mount Davis Youth Hostel are youth hostel members. Accommodation at Mount Davis Youth Hostel is very cost-effective, starting from HK$150 for a single bed and only HK$450 for a double room with a sea view.
