As the name suggests, Yunji is not a real Yunnan restaurant, but a restaurant that straddles the flavors of Yunnan and Guizhou, and focuses on Guizhou sour soup fish. The taste difference between Yunnan and Guizhou provinces is not small, but some areas in northeast Yunnan are closer to Sichuan and Guizhou, and the taste is not without similarities with Guizhou. The dishes of Yunji Restaurant are based on the common tastes of this part of the region, and widely absorb well-known dishes from all over Yunnan and Guizhou. Although it is difficult to compete with authentic Yunnan restaurants in terms of the restoration of dishes, the attempt to blend the characteristics of Yunnan and Guizhou is also eye-catching enough.
The first thing you will notice when you step into Yunji Restaurant is the sour water smell that lingers in the restaurant, which comes from the restaurant's main sour soup fish hot pot. Yunji's sour soup fish pot is based on Kaili red sour soup, which is a popular sour soup in Kaili Miao and Dong villages in Guizhou, and is usually used to cook river fish. Yunji takes it as the base soup of the hot pot, and can choose to serve with Jiangtuan fish or Qingjiang fish, the whole fish is boiled in the pot, and then matched with various hot pot side dishes, the fish is firm and fresh, but the acidity of the bottom soup is quite high, and the umami is mostly lost. In addition, there are other flavors of sour soup pot base to choose from, which are closer to the Yunnan flavor of Lijiang pork ribs pot and Fuyuan sauerkraut pork knuckle pot, both of which are representatives of Yunnan elements, and the taste performance is decent.
For dishes other than hot pot, the flavors of Yunnan and Guizhou are basically half open, and the barbecue is all occupied by Yunnan flavors. Popular dishes in Yunnan restaurants such as grilled tilapia with lemongrass, grilled pork belly with Dai flavor, Naxi grilled chicken, and grilled stinky tofu in Jianshui have all been included in the menu of Yunji Restaurant, but Yunji's production has not come up with enough convincing power to impress diners. There are three dishes of mushrooms, wild vegetables and small tofu, except for the mushrooms, the taste is unsatisfactory, and the wild vegetables of banana leaf roast add bitterness and astringency and a feeling of raw green leaves.
Among the Yunnan-style cold dishes, the cold salad mint folded ear root is the most distinctive, the taste is fishy and bitter, and the folded ear root used in the restaurant is not a high-quality variety, if you don't try it new, it is not recommended to order. The mint beef roll has thinner slices of meat, more mint, and the entrance is full of mint, which overshadows the meaty aroma. The lemon shredded chicken is of acceptable quality and has a moderate pungent and sour taste; Shredded chicken rice noodles are spicy and sticky, and the taste is not good.
The rest of the Yunnan-style hot dishes, the double pepper porcini mushrooms are of acceptable level, the ingredients are excellent, the mushroom pieces are fragrant and meaty, and the seasoning is moderate. The old grandmother artichoke uses Yunnan sauerkraut, which is authentic. The carved plum lotus root slices are crispy and thin, accompanied by Dali carved plum and tangerine peel silk, the taste is sweet and sour. Yunnan famous dish black three chopped, there are two options of pork or beef, green pepper, fungus, minced meat fried on a plate, salty and fresh can be served with rice. Staple foods such as Mengzi cross-bridge rice noodles, Yingjiang pineapple rice, small pot rice noodles, etc., are mostly lackluster.
Yunji Yungui Flavor Restaurant is located in Binjiang Longhu Heavenly Street, with relatively simple decoration and a weak sense of design, and is mostly decorated with green plants and scribbles. The restaurant service is basically in place, and the attitude is sincere, but adding tea and water is not timely enough. The restaurant has a semi-cubicle private room that can accommodate about 8 people, so it is recommended to make a reservation in advance.
