Before it officially opened in 2006, Yuyintang had been operating underground performances in Shanghai for more than a year. In the minds of local music fans, Yuyintang is not the largest venue with the best environment, but it is the most underground and attitude rock music mecca in Shanghai.

Coming out of Exit 2 of Yan'an West Road Station of Metro Line 4, less than 1 minute's walk, opposite McDonald's, a small white building with a neon guitar and three big characters of "Yuyintang" will appear in front of you. Stepping into the small door, the restlessness of the room with the music all rushed to the newcomers who had just entered the door, such an atmosphere can probably only be found here in Shanghai.

In the hearts of many local bands in Shanghai, Yuyintang is a home-like existence, because it is the first official stage for many unknown small bands, and it is also the dream stage for many campus bands. Zhang Haisheng, the founder of Yuyintang, is committed to promoting the development of rock music in Shanghai and supporting the growth of local rock bands, such as holding a permanent Open Mic event on Mondays to give young musicians the opportunity to perform, and organizing their own platter performances on days when the venue is not rented, and holding free tickets for new bands...... Just so that Shanghai's local bands can be seen and heard. Therefore, even though the venue of Yuyintang is very small, many bands that have a certain reputation still choose to sing in Yuyintang, such as the Brain Dullness Band and the Dirty Finger Band.

Compared to large venues such as MAO LIVEHOUSE and Bandai Namco Shanghai Cultural Center, Yuyintang's venue is not only small, but also very simple. The walls are covered with stickers, graffiti, the retro street sense is very strong, the whole space has two floors, the first floor is the main performance area, the size of the whole area is less than 20 square meters, probably can only accommodate more than 100 people, but the actual number of people often far exceeds this number, people rub shoulders, the atmosphere is quite warm, and the environment is also extremely congested. The artist lounge area and restrooms are set up on the second floor, and there is also a VIP box on the second floor, where the audience can sit on the sofa and watch the performances downstairs through live TV.

Although the atmosphere is full of marks, in terms of the process and effect of the performance, Yuyintang is still a little casual. The opening time of the ticket is generally not credible, and it will take dozens of minutes or even an hour to wait for the performance to officially start after arriving on time. Because of the long years of use, the sound and lighting facilities of Yuyin Hall are relatively old, and the sound equipment often has problems, and the noise is present, and the lighting effect is also very simple.

In addition, Yuyintang has lockers on the second floor, and you need to pay a deposit of 50 yuan at the bar on the first floor to use the lockers.
