EF Education First - Institution Reviews

EF, which has provided language training and education services for the Olympic Games five times, has been established for more than 50 years. It has partnered with Apple since 1995 to explore computer language learning programs, and in 2010 it established the world's largest student competition, the Hult Prize, to help solve the world's toughest social problems, and in the same year established the Language Learning Center with the School of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge as its academic research partner. EF first released the world's largest English proficiency report in 2011, EPI, and two years later partnered with the Harvard Graduate School of Education to explore a second language learning model for students. EF's learning system levels correspond to the CEFR Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and each level includes exercises in listening, reading, writing, and interactive units. Among them, A1 Beginner Level and A2 Beginner Level are designed for beginners who have little contact with English, or have a basic understanding of grammatical structures, and can understand some situational conversations. B1 Intermediate, B2 Upper-Intermediate, C1 Advanced and C2 Advanced are advanced learning courses, ranging from limited forms of expression in everyday life discussions, to understanding complex and lengthy literary works, fluency in various types of conversations, accurate expression and polishing, with a total of 10 levels to be studied, all taught by external teachers. EF's curriculum model is still a combination of online and interactive offline teaching, and the SMART 15 learning system is based on three major areas: Learn→ Try→ Apply. The first part of Learn, which is mainly completed online, is divided into 6 units for each level, each unit includes 3-5 hours of content, focusing on consolidating basic courses such as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, and mostly using video videos covering real life and work scenes to create a question bank, and the learning experience is relatively easy to educate. After completing Smart Online, you will receive three class tickets, which will unlock the second section, Try. Try includes Face to Face (small classes of 1-6 students), Workshop (practice tutorials for 1-25 students), Group Class (online group conversation classes for 8 people) and Private Class (1-on-1 online private conversation classes). Among them, the time and space restrictions of online group conversation classes are relatively low, and after the network is launched, you can participate in the course at every hour and half point, and each class is 40 minutes; The workshop is also a good opportunity to practice output, and there are 3 classes a day in the morning, noon and evening. Face-to-face classes and 1-on-1 group conversation classes require reservations, and since EF does not set up offline VIP classes, it is much easier to make an appointment compared to Wall Street English's class rush war, and online 1-to-1 classes only need to be booked one day in advance, and each class lasts 20 minutes. EF's Apply session is very rich, divided into two modules: LifeClub and CA. CA is a discussion in the business context, focusing on workplace socialization; LifeClub is held daily at EF Guangzhou's 6 learning centers or off-center venues, and even up to 8 activities a day on weekends, such as wine tastings, live CS, speech clubs, baking and other fun activities in a real language environment, and students have plenty of opportunities to practice speaking flexibly. EF course fees are not calculated by class hours and levels, but are measured in years, and can be divided into about 6 levels, each level takes about 2 months. Usually, the course consultant will reduce the annual package price of the original price of 36,999 yuan to less than 28,999 yuan in the name of the remaining quota for enterprise group purchase, which is a relatively large change. Compared with Wall Street English's fee-by-class fee, the annual learning cycle is more suitable for diligent and time-rich students, and it is a more cost-effective choice to do more questions and make more appointments, which can basically go to 1-2 more levels. However, problems such as the low threshold for teachers, the non-synchronization of Smart Online video classes and face-to-face classes, and mixed-level classes are still the whirlpool of controversy that EF cannot avoid, and it does not have VIP classes, and there is also a lack of privacy. At the same time, the common problems of the performance of large institutions such as difficulty in refunding fees and exaggerated publicity still exist, and when the contract involves the "management fee" of withdrawal and refund, prohibiting consumers from transferring courses to third parties, and renewing the contract without refund, please be sure to keep your eyes open and consider more.
