Guangdong State Guest House opened in October 1952 and was rated as a four-star hotel by the National Tourism Administration in 1994. Although the hotel itself has a sense of age, the facilities from large to small are not decent. However, some guests reported that the air humidity in some rooms was high, and the hotel did not provide dehumidifiers, so there would be a musty smell in the room.

It has hosted many high-level major conferences and even state banquets, received heads of government of more than 120 countries, and Premier Zhou Enlai has also signed cooperation agreements with foreign heads of state at the Guangdong State Guest House many times. At the same time, the provincial and municipal governments have also arranged the opening and closing receptions of the Canton Fair and the National Day receptions here for many times.
The hotel has a total of 15 distinctive Chinese and Western restaurants with 1,600 seats, providing authentic Cantonese cuisine, Chaozhou cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Huaiyang cuisine and Western cuisine.
