Founded in 1898 in Goslar, Germany, founder Emil Otto started his business by producing strings and laces. In 1955, when he went skiing in Austria, he found that it was very troublesome to sit by the fireplace and occasionally go to a hot spring, and he had to put on and take off his shoes constantly, but wearing socks alone would get wet and dirty from the snow or dust on the ground.
