Founded in 1873 by Thomas Church and his three sons, Alfred, William and Thomas Jr., Church's, a British handmade shoe brand, is known for its handcrafted quality footwear based on the family's shoemaking experience since 1675. William, the son of the founder, revolutionized shoemaking in the late 19th century with different types and half-sizes of left and right feet, and Church's became a founding member of the Society for the Study of the Footwear Trade (SATRA). Church's headquarters are located in Northampton, not far from London, which has been a centre for the leather and footwear industry since the Middle Ages.
Within a few years, Church's had transformed from a craft studio into a major manufacturer of quality footwear with a strong presence in the UK, London, and the rest of Europe. At the beginning of the 19th century, Church's began exporting its products to new markets outside Europe, such as the United States, Canada and South America. The brand opened its first flagship store in London in 1921. In 1957, the brand opened a new factory, which is still the brand's global headquarters. In 1965, Queen Elizabeth II visited and was awarded the Queen's Award. In 1999, it was acquired by the luxury brand PRADA Group.
One of Church's classics is the black cowhide coin loafers made from polished leather. These loafers are sewn using the Goodyear method, so that the handmade shoes can be bent without deforming; The rubber sole is non-slip and wear-resistant; The workmanship is fine, and the inside of each pair of shoes has a handwritten size mark by the old craftsman, which is a classic high-quality shoe that is worth investing in, and the price is about 4050 yuan.
