Nest Labs was founded by a former Apple engineer, and then acquired by Google, so it has a strong Internet gene, Nest first started with smart thermostats, and officially entered the field of home monitoring after the acquisition of professional intelligent monitoring company Dropcam in 2014.
Nowadays, Nest has a complete set of smart home ecology, its products involve cameras, sensors, alarms, doorbells, smart locks and other smart home fields, in 2018 Nest and Google home device team merged, officially became a member of Google smart hardware.
Although the Nest product does not have strong system control compared to the Arlo camera, it leads the sales in the European and American markets due to its simple appearance and excellent product performance, and user reviews say that "Nest's new camera is expensive, but it is beyond the reach of competitors". At the same time, the Nest surveillance camera has also gained traction from many media outlets. Nest Cam IQ Outdoor was named the best outdoor home security camera by TechHive, and the Nest Cam Indoor, The Wirecutter's recommended indoor camera, rated it as "fewer false alarms and no missed moments".
There are four main types of Nest surveillance cameras, which can be divided into IQ series and basic series, and two products in each series are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The IQ series uses a camera imaging solution similar to that of flagship mobile phones, using a 4k image sensor to output 1080p video for higher video clarity and lossless zoom, resulting in a significant improvement in photographic image quality and leading the industry in imaging technology.
The IQ Series also features facial recognition not commonly seen by other cameras, which can identify strangers and acquaintances, taking intelligent detection technology a step further and making notifications to users more useful. The advanced technology IQ Series is costly at $299 for indoor products and $349 for outdoor products.
Compared to the IQ series, the base series doesn't have face recognition and 4K sensors, and both the indoor and outdoor models are priced at $199. It's worth noting that the cloud storage space for the Nest camera needs to be purchased separately, and it costs $50 a year for 5 days of cloud storage, which is a bit more expensive to use than the Arlo camera.
