Founded in 1911, Autolite Auto Parts Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is a well-known spark plug brand in North America and a large-scale diversified auto parts and auto care products company in North America
The birth of Autolite began in 1911 when two small companies began to produce car lamps and became a thriving auto parts manufacturer in the 30s of the 20th century. However, the history as a producer of spark plugs began in 1935, when Royce G. Martin, president of Electric Motor Corporation, equipped up a laboratory to develop the first Autolite spark plugs.
The project was led by Robert Twells, a ceramic engineer who eagerly researched current patents and ceramic insulator technology. There were several new draftsmen and crews, and only a few months ago, the electrical company had a spark plug available for distribution. Autolite has been a success because the brand has supplied spark plugs and other ignition parts to prominent automotive leaders, including Chrysler, Studebaker, Packard and Willys.
