RLB Glassware (China) Co., Ltd., Royal Leerdam, founded in the Netherlands in 1765, is the world's largest manufacturer of legged utensils, one of the brands of "Royal" wine glasses specially approved by the Dutch royal family, and a large manufacturer of glass tableware in North America
The "Royal Leerdam" brand of RLB comes from the "land of tulips" - the Netherlands, and is one of the brands with the title of "Royal" specially approved by the Dutch royal family, with a history of 100 years in the European market, adhering to the elegant and noble tradition of Europe, and is a special glass product for the Dutch National Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
RLB was founded in 1818 as the New England Glass Company in East Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1888, the company moved to Toledo, Ohio, and in 1892 it was named Libby Glass Company. At the end of the century, Michael Owen, RLB's first production supervisor and one of the greatest inventors of recent times, revolutionized the glass-making process and invented the world's first automatic glass-making machine. RLB soon became a leader in the manufacture of glass tableware in North America and gradually became widely recognized as a glass manufacturer in the Americas.
In October 1995, RLB acquired Syracuse and entered the ceramic tableware sector. In 1971, when Syracuse became a publicly traded company, the focus of management shifted to a fast-growing foodservice industry and solid sales growth. Through mergers and acquisitions, RLB continues to expand, taking another step to become the world's largest supplier of glass tableware, expanding its market share in Europe through two acquisitions, in 2002 with the acquisition of Royal Leerdam in the Netherlands, one of the world's largest producers of footware, and in 2005 with the acquisition of Crisal, a Portuguese manufacturer of glass tableware. The merger of these two factories has made RLB the largest supplier of glass tableware in Europe.
Through mergers and acquisitions, RLB continued to expand and in August 1997, RLB acquired World Tableware from Vitro S.A, marking RLB's first expansion into flat cutlery, plates and export cutlery.
In September 2005, RLB broke ground on a glass cutlery factory in China. This is the first new RLB facility to be built in the last 40 years and was commissioned in early 2007. RLB China uses RLB's latest technology to produce the best glassware and tall containers. In addition, RLB's China facility is strategically located in the Langfang Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hebei Province, closest to the Asia-Pacific market, 56 kilometres from central Beijing and 96 kilometres from Tianjin, one of the largest seaports. The growing market share in Asia and the Pacific, particularly in China, is an important target for RLB's global development. Our plan is to capture the rapid growth of the foodservice, retail and industrial channels in the Asia Pacific region through extensive distributor relationships and providing the best service.
