The famous pipe merchant was originally known as La Bruyere, a name that was the combined name of Chapuis and Comoy, the French cousin of Comoy in London. When he decided to close the Saint-Claude factory because of the poor sales in the French market, Evans, a descendant of the Como family who was working in the London headquarters at the time, asked him to save the factory, and was able to negotiate with Comoy to buy the French factory, and he succeeded in running Chapuis-Comoy as one of the most famous pipe manufacturers in France, and continues to produce it today. The company is now the headquarters of the prestigious Saint-Claude brand consortium and is one of the 15 members of the prestigious Confrerie des Maitres-Pipiers.
