In 1848, Karl Ellenberger and his partner Carl August Ziener turned their vision into reality in Nuremberg. In 1909, Adolf Eckert changed the brand name to "Vau" after the initial "V" of Vereinigte Pfeifenfabriken and the "N" pronunciation of Nuremberg, "EN", which has been used ever since.
